About the Position
Dexis is seeking a Technical Writer to support a large-scale Army test and evaluation program. The project provides data collection, technical writing, computer operations, range scheduling, and administrative support services necessary to execute the government’s test mission.
Support encompasses testing of a wide variety of automotive, combat, electronic, general equipment, and ordnance materiel, with services including data collection and coordination, data compilation and processing, development and management of data collection forms, test monitoring, technical writing and editorial review, reporting, data and software administration, range scheduling, and related operational support.
The Technical Writer develops, writes, edits, and organizes technical and administrative publications supporting Army research, development, test and evaluation activities. The role documents equipment, test activities, work methods, procedures, and maintenance information and helps translate technical information into clear, concise publications for government and technical audiences.
Work will be performed primarily onsite in Aberdeen, Maryland, with travel to other locations within the Continental United States (CONUS) and Outside the Continental United States (OCONUS) as required by mission needs. This position is contingent upon contract award.
Responsibilities
- Assist in developing, writing, and editing reports, manuals, briefs, proposals, instruction books, catalogs, and related technical and administrative publications.
- Develop technical materials concerning work methods and procedures and the installation, operation, and maintenance of machinery and other equipment.
- Observe production, developmental, and experimental activities to document operating procedures and technical details.
- Interview production and engineering personnel and review journals, reports, and other materials to become familiar with product technologies and production methods.
- Review manufacturers’ trade catalogs, drawings, and other data related to the operation, maintenance, and service of equipment.
- Organize material and complete writing assignments according to established standards for order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology.
- Review published materials and recommend revisions or changes in scope, format, content, and methods of reproduction and binding.
- Maintain records and files of work products and revisions.
- Select photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to illustrate technical material and assist with publication layout.
- Coordinate typing, duplication, and distribution of materials.
- Write speeches, articles, and public or employee relations releases as required.
- Edit, standardize, and revise materials prepared by other writers or technical personnel.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or another scientific discipline; OR an Associate’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or another scientific discipline and three (3) years of technical writing experience supporting Army research, development, test and evaluation (RDT&E) programs; OR ten (10) years of technical writing experience supporting Army RDT&E programs.
- Must possess a high school diploma.
- Must be proficient in speaking, reading, writing, and understanding English.
- Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Must be proficient in the use of computers and Microsoft Office software.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
- Must be able to meet the physical requirements necessary to perform assigned functions, which may include working in extreme heat or cold, high humidity, blowing sand and dust, confined spaces, at heights, and walking distances over unimproved terrain while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Must be available to support work outside normal duty hours when required by mission needs.
- Must be willing and able to travel within CONUS and OCONUS as required.
