Data Architect / Data Analyst

We specialize in providing management and technology consulting services to support the business and technology modernization efforts of the Federal Government. ThinkTek was formed with the specific purpose of providing its clients a tailored solution around Program & Project Management, Strategic Planning, and IT Services.
Position Description:
ThinkTek is seeking an experienced Data Architect / Data Analyst to support enterprise business process re-engineering and the development of a comprehensive, end-to-end information and data architecture. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying and documenting the information assets required to execute and govern re-engineered business processes and translating high-level information requirements into detailed, granular data elements.
This role will support the development of an enterprise canonical data model by systematically decomposing information assets, documenting data relationships and dependencies, and mapping the complete data lifecycle throughout business processes. The position will maintain a comprehensive Data Dictionary and Requirements Traceability Matrix (RTM) to ensure clear, bi-directional alignment between mission capabilities, future-state processes, business rules, information assets, data elements, and performance measures.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of business architecture, data architecture, process modeling, requirements management, data governance, and enterprise information management, with the ability to translate complex business processes into structured data and information requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Identify, define, analyze, and document the information assets required to execute, manage, measure, and govern re-engineered business processes.
- Analyze target-state business processes to determine the information required at each stage of the process lifecycle.
- Systematically decompose high-level information assets into granular data elements to support development of an end-to-end canonical data model.
- Define data-element attributes, relationships, ownership, usage, dependencies, and business context.
- Identify relationships and dependencies between information assets, business processes, capabilities, business rules, and performance measures.
- Ensure information requirements are complete, consistent, standardized, and aligned with enterprise data architecture objectives.
- Identify opportunities to standardize, consolidate, and rationalize information assets across business processes and organizational functions.
- Document data flows, interfaces, transformations, dependencies, and handoffs across business architecture.
- Identify data duplication, inconsistencies, gaps, redundancies, and unnecessary transformations within existing and target-state processes.
- Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders to validate data lifecycle models and ensure they accurately represent operational requirements.
- Ensure data lifecycle documentation supports downstream data architecture, integration, migration, governance, and system implementation activities.
- Translate business process and information requirements into standardized data structures and logical relationships.
- Define data entities, attributes, relationships, and business definitions necessary to support the canonical model.
- Collaborate with enterprise, solution, and data architects to ensure the canonical model appropriately represents target-state business requirements..
- Maintain traceability between data dictionary entries and associated processes, business rules, capabilities, requirements, and performance measures.
- Coordinate with subject matter experts and data owners to validate and approve data definitions.
- Develop clear documentation and visualizations to communicate complex information and data relationships.
- Provide recommendations regarding information management, data standardization, data ownership, and process improvement.
- Maintain accurate and current architectural artifacts throughout the business transformation lifecycle.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business Administration, Data Management, Engineering, or a related discipline; equivalent experience may be considered.
- 5+ years of experience in business architecture, data architecture, information architecture, business analysis, requirements engineering, or a related field.
- Experience developing or supporting conceptual, logical, or canonical data models.
- Strong understanding of data modeling concepts, entities, attributes, relationships, metadata, and data lifecycle management.
- Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining data dictionaries and requirements traceability matrices.
- Strong requirements management and traceability experience.
- Ability to decompose high-level business and information requirements into detailed, actionable data elements and requirements.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills.
- Ability to facilitate discussions and achieve consensus among diverse business and technical stakeholders.
Pay Range
The anticipated annual salary range for this position is $150,030 – $160,020. This range is a good-faith estimate and not a guarantee of compensation. Final compensation will be based on factors including experience, education, skills, geographic location, internal equity, market data, and applicable contract requirements, and may fall outside the posted range.
