Full description

Senior Power BI Developer

Location: Plano, TX | Experience: 8+ years | Reports to: [Manager, BI & Analytics] Type: Full-time | Work model: [On-site / Hybrid]

About the Role

We're hiring a Senior Power BI Developer in Plano to own enterprise reporting end to end — from stakeholder conversations through governed semantic models, tuned SQL, and dashboards executives rely on daily. You'll be the technical authority on Power BI, contribute to a secondary Tableau estate, and mentor junior developers.

What You'll Do

  • Build in Power BI: Executive dashboards, interactive reports, KPI scorecards, and paginated reports — with complex DAX measures and Power Query (M) transformations.
  • Govern and secure: Implement Row-Level Security, tune dataset and report performance, and manage workspaces, refresh schedules, and gateway configuration in Power BI Service.
  • Translate requirements: Meet with business and department leaders, convert needs into technical specs and wireframes, and deliver on an Agile cadence.
  • Model data: Maintain governed semantic layers with certified metrics, conformed dimensions, and hierarchies; support star/snowflake schemas on Snowflake, Databricks, or equivalent.
  • Write serious SQL: Complex joins, CTEs, window functions, and stored procedures — plus profiling and optimization of slow queries and pipelines.
  • Validate: Source-to-report reconciliation and regression testing to keep metrics accurate and consistent.
  • Support Tableau: Dashboards using LOD expressions, table calculations, parameters, and action filters; extract optimization and Tableau Server/Cloud publishing and permissions.
  • Lead: Mentor junior developers, set BI standards, and document architecture and data lineage.

What You'll Bring

Required

  • Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, Information Systems, Analytics, or related field
  • 8+ years in BI development, including enterprise projects with direct stakeholder engagement
  • Strong Power BI portfolio, including Paginated Reports
  • Proficiency in DAX and Power Query (M)
  • Row-Level Security and Power BI performance tuning experience
  • Advanced SQL — joins, CTEs, subqueries, window functions; able to analyze large existing procedures and functions
  • Experience with large datasets in Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery, Azure Synapse, or SQL Server
  • Solid grasp of data modeling and visualization principles; comfortable in Agile teams

Preferred

  • Microsoft PL-300 or DP-600 certification
  • Tableau development experience; Tableau Desktop Certified Professional
  • Tableau Server/Cloud administration
  • Tableau Prep, Alteryx, or dbt
  • Exposure to Looker, QuickSight, or Figma for wireframing
