THE ROLE: Short Term UX Designer

Britebound is a national nonprofit that is changing the way kids learn about careers and prepare for their futures through access to career-readiness information and experiences.

Britebound fulfills its mission through free digital-first direct experiences, philanthropy, advocacy, thought leadership, groundbreaking research, and impact investing. We believe that exploring career possibilities, as early as middle school, and providing access to education-to-career pathways aligned with one’s passions and goals will result in greater confidence and long-term success for all students.

We are looking for a short term user-experienced designer who can quickly integrate into our team, take ownership of projects, and deliver high-quality work. You’ll lead design initiatives in a fast-paced environment while collaborating closely with product managers, designers, and developers.

**This is a 3 month contract role**

What You’ll Do:

  • Design
  • Lead design projects from initial concept through final delivery.
  • Create user flows, low- and high-fidelity wireframes, interactive prototypes, and polished visual designs in Figma.
  • Apply modern UI/UX patterns while designing experiences that are appropriate and engaging for young users.
  • Take a mobile-first approach to designing responsive web and mobile experiences.
  • Ensure designs follow our established design system and contribute improvements when appropriate.
  • Incorporate accessibility and inclusive-design best practices, including WCAG guidelines.
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions, design critiques, and cross-functional reviews.
  • Make thoughtful design decisions, seek feedback at the right stages, and iterate quickly.
  • Research
  • Collaborate with product managers, researchers, and designers to understand user needs, research findings, and business goals.
  • Translate existing research, product data, and stakeholder input into actionable design decisions.
  • Stay current with relevant UI and interaction trends across EdTech, youth-focused products, and consumer-to-consumer platforms.
  • Clearly communicate how research and insights have influenced the design direction.
  • Collaboration
  • Partner with internal and external development teams to ensure designs are feasible, consistent, and implemented as intended.
  • Collaborate across product, research, design, engineering, and marketing.
  • Lead projects in a fast-paced environment, proactively identifying risks, dependencies, and opportunities.
  • Present design concepts and explain decisions clearly to audiences with varying levels of design and technical knowledge.
  • Manage feedback constructively while maintaining a clear point of view and responsibility for the overall user experience.
  • Contribute positively to the broader design culture and product goals.

About You:

  • 5+ years of experience designing digital products and experiences.
  • A portfolio demonstrating strong product thinking, interaction design, visual design, and end-to-end project ownership.
  • Proven ability to independently lead design projects and become productive quickly within an existing team.
  • Advanced proficiency in Figma, including wireframing, prototyping, visual design, and design-system components.
  • A strong foundation in UX principles, information architecture, interaction design, and responsive web and mobile design.
  • Experience interpreting research findings and product data to inform design decisions.
  • Working knowledge of WCAG accessibility guidelines and a commitment to inclusive design.
  • Awareness of current design trends and the judgment to apply them in ways that serve the user and product.
  • Strong written, verbal, and visual communication skills.
  • A collaborative, proactive, and detail-oriented approach to solving design challenges.
  • A basic understanding of front-end technologies - HTML and CSS.
  • Comfortable working independently, navigating ambiguity, and balancing multiple priorities.
  • Experience collaborating with distributed teams, agencies, or external development partners.

Nice to Haves:

  • Experience designing youth-focused, educational, or EdTech products.
  • Experience designing AI features for C2C audiences
  • Motion design or video-editing experience.
  • Understanding of gamification design principles
