Full description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Engineering Manager - Storefront based in Brazil.
We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead and develop a high-performing engineering team responsible for a business-critical e-commerce and payments platform. In this role, you will drive the modernization of a large-scale storefront system while improving its performance, reliability, and scalability. You will combine strong technical expertise with hands-on people leadership to turn individual talent into consistent team delivery. Working closely with senior engineers, you will guide architectural decisions and lead the transition toward a more cloud-native environment. You will also help the platform prepare for significantly higher transaction volumes while strengthening engineering practices and operational excellence. This is an exciting opportunity to shape a critical product within a collaborative, distributed, and technology-driven environment.
\n
Accountabilities:
•
Lead, manage, and grow the Storefront engineering team, including recruiting, onboarding, mentoring, and developing engineers as the team scales.
•
Establish clear delivery priorities and execution plans, balancing platform modernization initiatives with scalability and reliability objectives.
•
Partner with senior technical leaders to evaluate architecture, make engineering decisions, and define effective technical solutions.
•
Drive the resolution of production performance bottlenecks, reliability challenges, and observability gaps.
•
Lead the modernization of the existing VM-based .NET platform toward a cloud-native architecture.
•
Ensure the platform can reliably support significantly higher payment transaction volumes while maintaining performance and stability.
•
Establish effective team processes, operating rhythms, and engineering standards that promote accountability, collaboration, and predictable delivery.
•
Conduct regular one-on-one meetings, provide constructive feedback, support career development, and build a strong team culture.
•
Use AI-assisted development tools to improve engineering productivity, accelerate modernization efforts, and enhance software delivery.
•
Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to align technical priorities with product and business objectives.
Requirements:
•
10+ years of overall professional experience, including at least 8 years of hands-on technical experience and 1+ year in a formal engineering people-management role, managing at least 3 direct reports.
•
Previous experience as an Engineering Manager leading production-critical, revenue-generating platforms. This position requires established people-management experience rather than a first transition into leadership.
•
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
•
Proven ability to develop strong individual contributors into cohesive, high-performing, and accountable engineering teams.
•
Experience managing distributed teams working primarily during US business hours.
•
Demonstrated experience modernizing VM-based .NET systems toward cloud-native architectures and scaling production platforms to support significantly higher traffic or transaction volumes.
•
Strong technical expertise and credibility, including the ability to read code, evaluate backend architecture, understand system design trade-offs, and make or validate technical decisions.
•
Solid backend engineering fundamentals, ideally with .NET and SQL Server, or the ability to quickly adapt to this technology stack.
•
Strong understanding of relational database design and operations, including schema design, query performance optimization, and database locking behavior at production scale.
•
Experience deploying, monitoring, and troubleshooting production services in cloud environments, preferably Microsoft Azure.
•
Advanced proficiency in at least one programming language, ideally .NET, Java, or Python.
•
Familiarity with observability platforms such as Datadog, New Relic, Honeycomb, or equivalent solutions.
•
Extensive experience with automated testing frameworks and software quality practices.
•
Practical proficiency with AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, Codex, or comparable solutions.
•
Excellent leadership, communication, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
Nice to have:
•
Strong hands-on experience with .NET or Java.
•
Deep knowledge of Microsoft Azure and its cloud services.
•
Experience with PCI-DSS compliance and payment security requirements.
•
Background in payments, fintech, or high-volume transaction processing platforms.
•
Previous involvement in legacy .NET modernization, large-scale migration, or platform scalability initiatives.
Benefits:
•
100% remote work opportunity within Latin America, subject to employment eligibility and residency requirements.
•
Opportunity to lead the modernization of a large-scale, business-critical technology platform.
•
Collaboration with experienced engineers and technical leaders in a distributed international team.
•
Meaningful ownership of engineering strategy, team development, and platform scalability.
•
Exposure to modern cloud technologies, payment infrastructure, and AI-assisted software development.
•
Professional growth through challenging technical and leadership responsibilities.
