PROFILE
The Financial Analyst, Tax & Partner Admin plays a vital role in supporting the firm's tax compliance, partner administration, and regulatory reporting activities. Working closely with the Tax & Partner Admin teams, the incumbent ensures compliance with partnership, tax, and legal regulatory requirements, including indirect federal and provincial tax, partnership and corporate tax, and provincial law society rules.
This role can be based in any of our Canadian offices!
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare indirect tax returns, including GST/HST, PST, and other applicable filings.
- Reconcile tax and partner balance sheet accounts and investigate discrepancies.
- Undertake income statement account analysis to ensure appropriate tax classification and membership expense coding.
- Monitor filing and reporting deadlines and ensure assigned tax and regulatory requirements are completed accurately and on a timely basis.
- Prepare annual law society membership and insurance payments.
- Assist with annual law society reporting and respond to questions from professionals.
- Assist with partner compensation and capital accounts.
- Assist with calculation of annual partner tax allocations and corporate tax provisions.
- Assist in responding to sales tax for legal services from professionals as well as reviewing appropriate sales tax on invoices.
- Support partner onboarding and offboarding financial processes.
- Support tax audits by gathering documentation and responding to information requests.
- Develop and improve tax, partner administration and membership processes, controls, and documentation.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including Finance, Payroll and the various tax authorities.
- Support special projects, tax planning initiatives, and business transactions.
QUALIFICATIONS
- University degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
- CPA designation or progression towards a professional accounting designation.
- Working knowledge of Canadian corporate income tax, GST/HST, provincial sales taxes, and tax accounting principles.
- 2 to 4 years of relevant experience in tax or financial analysis, preferably within a professional services environment.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the aptitude to meet the Firm’s needs in a professional and courteous manner.
- Demonstrates a solutions-oriented approach, challenges the status quo, and strives to improve processes.
- Ability to manage multiple and competing tasks/priorities.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to promote a collaborative work/team environment by presenting a professional and responsive attitude towards others and by demonstrating prompt and conscientious work habits.
- Capacity to work independently, as well as in a team environment.
- Experience in a professional services organization and financial software is an asset.
- Bilingualism (English/French) would be an asset

The starting range for this role is $60,000 to $75,000. Starting salary will be determined based on an applicant’s individual skills, competencies and unique qualifications. Gowling WLG employees have the potential to exceed this range based on tenure and performance.
