What’s the role?

Join a team focused on making it easier for engineers across Westpac to build, test and deliver software securely and at scale. As a Principal DevOps Engineer, you'll provide technical leadership across strategic developer platforms including GitHub Enterprise, Artifactory and CI/CD tooling. You'll help define and evolve engineering standards, build secure and automated delivery pathways, and improve the developer experience through modern platform engineering practices. Working closely with engineering, architecture, security and risk teams, you'll drive platform improvements, mentor engineers and help shape the future of software delivery across the bank. This is a hands-on technical role with significant influence on platform direction, engineering practices and delivery outcomes.

What do I need?

  • Strong experience delivering and supporting enterprise-scale DevOps, CI/CD or developer platform capabilities.
  • Hands-on expertise with GitHub Enterprise, GitHub Actions, GitHub Runners, Artifactory and modern deployment tools such as Harness, Argo CD or Octopus Deploy.
  • Experience designing and implementing Infrastructure as Code and platform automation solutions using tools such as Terraform, OpenTofu and APIs.
  • Strong software engineering and automation skills, including Python and platform integration development.
  • Knowledge of container platforms and modern application delivery technologies, including Docker, Kubernetes and Helm.
  • Experience building secure, scalable and reliable developer platforms that support enterprise software delivery.
  • Understanding of CI/CD best practices, automated testing and software release management.
  • Strong troubleshooting and operational skills across Linux and Windows environments, including monitoring and observability practices.
  • Ability to work effectively with engineering, architecture, security and risk stakeholders to deliver balanced and practical solutions.
  • Passion for mentoring engineers, driving technical improvements and creating great developer experiences through standardisation, automation and modern engineering practices.
