Full description
As a Senior Analytics Engineer, you will transform Sky’s data into trusted, scalable, and reusable data products that enable measurable outcomes, actionable insight, and confident decision-making across the organisation. Working with a high level of autonomy, you will own complex problems from discovery through to operationalisation, applying sound judgement to deliver solutions that meet both user needs and Sky’s strategic goals.
This is a hands-on senior role where you will model, test, deploy, document, and continuously improve robust data products using modern technologies such as Snowflake and dbt. You will build direct relationships across teams to understand the data and business context, define success measures, and ensure the products you own are accurate, secure, accessible, governed, and embedded into decision-making. You will also support and mentor junior team members, strengthen engineering practices, and help lift capability across the wider analytics community.
- Own the design, build, testing, deployment, and ongoing evolution of fit-for-purpose analytics products, including conformed data models, reusable datasets, BI objects, and AI agents.
- Work independently through ambiguous and complex data problems, making sound technical decisions and taking accountability for delivery from discovery through to production.
- Build direct, trusted relationships across teams to understand user needs, business processes, and data context; translate these into maintainable solutions and clear delivery plans.
- Define measurable outcomes and success measures for data products, then use evidence, feedback, and usage insights to improve their value and adoption.
- Apply and strengthen Sky’s analytics engineering standards through robust modelling, peer review, testing, documentation, version control, and CI/CD practices.
- Ensure data products are accurate, accessible, retrievable, secure, high quality, appropriately retained, and supported by clear definitions, metadata, lineage, and governance controls.
- Create and deploy production datasets and AI agents using Snowflake Intelligence, applying appropriate data visualisation tools and techniques where they best support decision-making.
- Support, coach, and mentor junior engineers and the wider Analytics and BI community, sharing best practice and providing constructive technical guidance.
- Maintain a continuous improvement mindset by monitoring emerging data and analytics practices, learning new capabilities, and identifying opportunities to improve Sky’s data maturity.
You’re an experienced, collaborative analytics engineer who takes ownership, works confidently through complexity, and turns data into meaningful business outcomes.
- 6+ years’ experience across modern data platforms, business intelligence, and analysis, including at least 2 years using dbt or a similar transformation and modelling framework.
- Advanced SQL skills and proven experience designing scalable, secure, repeatable cloud data solutions, with a strong understanding of data architecture, ETL/ELT, governance, quality, and compliance.
- Experience gathering requirements, mapping business processes, modelling data, documenting warehouse designs, and applying version control and CI/CD practices using tools such as GitLab.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence across teams and connect technical solutions to measurable business outcomes.
- A collaborative leadership style, with demonstrated capability to mentor others, contribute to technical standards, and lift capability across an analytics community.
- A solution-oriented, accountable, and commercially aware mindset, with confidence navigating change and a commitment to continuous learning; experience with Snowflake, AWS, Power BI, Snowflake certification, or subscription services is advantageous.
