The Finance Team drives performance while upholding the company's commitment to regulatory compliance and financial integrity through strategic collaboration with internal business partners and external constituents, including the investment community and regulators. By leveraging its unique view across the Blue Box, Finance supports innovation and transformation by helping identify and prioritize the most impactful growth opportunities for the company.

Our well-established Summer Internship Programme will provide high-performing students with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in projects that have strategic, operational or financial significance to the company. Interns will work on a challenging project, with an opportunity to learn about the culture and values of American Express, as well as network across regions and functions.

Responsibilities

  • Become an integral member of a Finance team working with Issuer (ICS), Merchant (GMS), Network (GNS), Corporate Planning (FP&A), Controllership, or Pricing.
  • Take ownership of a business-critical project focused on solving real-world challenges and supporting strategic decision-making.
  • Analyze financial and operational data in the P&L, including metrics such as Billings, Acquisitions, Revenue, and Expenses, to uncover meaningful insights.
  • Utilize generative AI technologies to improve productivity, develop insights, and support business objectives.
  • Partner with stakeholders across Finance and the broader business to understand key drivers of performance and develop data-driven recommendations.
  • Build and present a compelling story from your analysis, communicating complex information in a clear and impactful way.
  • Showcase your work and recommendations to senior Finance leaders through a final presentation at the end of the program.

Qualifications

Currently enrolled in full-time Bachelor’s degree program, with a predicted 2:1 degree or international equivalent

Students must have a graduation date between June - September 2028

  • Interest in American Express – understanding of the payments industry, our revenue generation, the Closed-Loop Model and our Blue Box Values.
  • Business acumen – ability to see the bigger picture, bring external knowledge in discussions and collaborate to influence senior leadership
  • Analytical skills – ability to generate hypothesis, manage large dataset do draw conclusions and share actionable insights to the business
  • Ability to leverage AI tools through effective prompting to support financial analysis, reporting, and business insights
  • Practical skills – Excel, PowerPoint and eagerness to learn /code in SQL to drive analyses leveraging our big data environments
  • Presentation skills – explain the story behind data to all audiences and clearly prepare slides independently
  • Soft skills - Ability to build trustworthy relationships across teams and networking effectively
