About the Role
We are looking for an enthusiastic Junior Quality Assurance Engineer to join our team at 1VALET. In this role, you will play a key part in ensuring the reliability and performance of 1VALET’s hardware and software products, including our Entry systems and third-party hardware integrations (smart locks, thermostats, sensors, and other IoT devices).
Working under the guidance of senior engineers and squad leads, you will collaborate with Product, Hardware Engineering, Software Engineering, and Operations teams to test new features, support field deployments, and help reproduce issues reported by customers. This is a hands-on QA role ideal for someone eager to build a career working directly with physical hardware, firmware, software, and connected IoT systems.
Responsibilities
Hardware & System Testing
- Execute test plans and test cases for hardware products, embedded software, and connected IoT systems.
- Perform functional, regression, and integration testing on 1VALET Entry systems and related hardware.
- Assist in validating hardware integrations, including smart locks, thermostats, access readers, and sensors.
- Support senior engineers during new hardware bring-up and setup in the lab.
Software & Platform QA
- Test mobile applications, backend services, and embedded firmware as part of end-to-end system validation.
- Run tests across multiple device types, screen sizes, hardware revisions, and firmware versions.
- Work closely with software engineers to reproduce, log, and verify fixes for software defects.
Field & Operations Support
- Collaborate with Customer Experience (CX) and Operations teams to help investigate issues reported from the field.
- Replicate customer-reported bugs in the lab using physical hardware and test environments.
- Document precise bug details and reproduction steps to help engineering teams resolve issues efficiently.
Process & Continuous Learning
- Log, track, and re-test bugs using test management and bug-tracking software.
- Maintain clear test documentation and report test execution results to the team.
- Actively participate in team discussions to help improve overall product quality and testing efficiency.
Required Qualifications
- 1–2 years of experience in Quality Assurance (or equivalent through internships, hands-on projects, or lab coursework).
- Foundational understanding of hardware, software, and basic networking concepts (Wi-Fi, Ethernet, Bluetooth/BLE).
- Hands-on familiarity with physical hardware, consumer electronics, or lab equipment.
- Basic experience using bug-tracking tools (e.g., Jira, TestRail, or similar).
- Strong problem-solving mindset, attention to detail, and a desire to learn complex hardware-software ecosystems.
Nice to Have
- Exposure to smart building technology, proptech, access control, or IoT devices.
- Basic familiarity with testing tools, APIs, or command-line utilities.
- Experience or interest in using AI-assisted tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, GitHub Copilot) to help write test cases, debug, or write documentation.
- Academic or project experience testing embedded systems or mobile applications.
