Position Overview

As Business Analyst, you'll work remotely with the Owner to turn Kamari Coffee's sales, labor, and inventory data into clear answers about where money is going and where it can be saved. This is a part-time role (up to 10 hours/month) focused on labor and cost control across our two San Francisco cafe locations, catering events, and drip services. It's well suited to someone who is comfortable in spreadsheets, curious about how a small food & beverage business runs, and able to explain numbers in plain language without in-person supervision.

Key Responsibilities

Labor Analysis

  • Track labor cost as a percentage of sales by location, daypart, and business line against targets set by the Owner
  • Compare scheduled hours to actual hours worked and flag overtime, overstaffing, and coverage gaps
  • Analyze sales patterns by hour and day to recommend staffing levels for each location
  • Review timekeeping data for accuracy and surface recurring issues

Cost Control

  • Monitor cost of goods sold, waste, and supply usage, and identify the drivers behind changes
  • Review vendor invoices and pricing for increases, errors, and savings opportunities
  • Analyze inventory data to recommend par levels and reduce over-ordering and spoilage
  • Calculate cost and margin by menu item, catering package, and drip service to support pricing decisions

Reporting

  • Build and maintain a recurring report or dashboard covering sales, labor, and cost metrics
  • Deliver a short written summary with each report: what changed, why, and what to do about it
  • Pull and clean data from Square and other business systems, and keep source files organized
  • Prepare one-off analyses for the Owner as questions come up

General

  • Communicate regularly and proactively with the Owner on findings, priorities, and open questions
  • Coordinate with the Owner on the operational data and context behind the numbers
  • Maintain confidentiality and sound judgment in handling financial, payroll, and personnel information
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in business, financial, or operations analysis, or a similar role
  • Advanced spreadsheet skills (Excel or Google Sheets), including formulas, pivot tables, and charts
  • Experience analyzing labor, cost, or margin data; food & beverage, hospitality, or retail experience preferred
  • Familiarity with Square or comparable POS and reporting systems preferred
  • Ability to explain findings clearly in writing to a non-technical audience
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy with numbers
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, on a self-managed schedule
  • Reliable internet access and own equipment for remote work

Work Environment

  • Fully remote; no travel to the warehouse or cafe locations required, but may be requested on occasion
  • Hours are flexible but capped at 10 per month; scheduling is coordinated with the Owner based on reporting cycles and project needs
  • Regular check-ins with the Owner by video or phone
