Benefits
Full description
CORE Transformers is seeking an accomplished Sales Engineer to serve as the senior technical and commercial authority for complex new construction projects. This influential role will help shape winning strategies for hyperscale data centers, renewable energy facilities, and industrial developments.
Key Responsibilities
- New Construction Bid Leadership: Serve as the senior technical and commercial lead on complex new construction bids, shaping scope, specification interpretation, and win strategy on the projects with the highest engineering complexity and commercial risk.
- Commercial Guidance on Complex Quotes: Provide commercial judgment on pricing strategy, risk positioning, and scope trade-offs for non-standard, engineered-to-order proposals — translating technical complexity into a defensible, winning commercial position.
- Market Intelligence & Strategic Guidance: Act as CORE's market guide for the new construction segment — tracking competitor positioning, spec trends, utility and developer requirements, and pricing dynamics, and translating that intelligence into guidance the Sales Engineer 1 team can act on.
- Working Team Leadership & Development: Serve as a hands-on, working leader for the Sales Engineer 1 group — reviewing complex quotes, coaching technical and commercial reasoning, acting as the escalation point for difficult specifications, and building the team's capability to take on more complex work over time.
- Technical Spec Review (Complex Projects): Analyze customer drawings, one-line diagrams, and utility interconnection requirements on the most technically demanding projects and specify transformer requirements for the factory accordingly.
- Cross-Functional Coordination: Partner with factory engineering, product engineering, and White Glove teams to resolve non-standard configuration and retrofit challenges on new construction projects.
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or related field preferred; extensive field experience in transformer application engineering, testing, and repair is highly valued in lieu of a degree.
- 15+ years of experience in transformer sales engineering, application engineering, switchgear, or power systems engineering, with deep expertise in medium-voltage (up to 35 kV) power transformation and new construction/engineered project work.
- Demonstrated success leading technical and commercial strategy on complex, high-value bids — data centers, renewable energy plants, and industrial new-build projects.
- Strong working knowledge of the competitive landscape, pricing dynamics, and specification trends across the medium-voltage transformer market, with the ability to translate that knowledge into actionable guidance for the team.
- Proven ability to mentor, coach, and develop less experienced engineers — acting as a working leader rather than a people manager, with credibility that comes from hands-on technical depth.
- Advanced proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, specifications, utility interconnection agreements, and protection schemes.
- Exceptional problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to walk a job site in steel-toed boots and present technical and commercial strategy to executive leadership and customers in a boardroom.
