Lake Superior Consulting is seeking a Sr Project Manager to lead projects within the Power market!

Lake Superior Consulting (LSC) is a growing engineering company serving the power, energy, industrial, and infrastructure markets. The Senior Project Manager is responsible for leading multi-disciplinary engineering and project teams in the successful execution of power generation, substation, and power distribution projects. Typical assignments may include generation facility upgrades, balance-of-plant systems, medium- and high-voltage substations, utility interconnections, electrical distribution improvements, protection and controls, SCADA coordination, and supporting civil, structural, mechanical, and environmental scope elements. This role collaborates with LSC leadership, clients, engineering discipline leads, vendors, and construction partners to deliver safe, high-quality projects that meet scope, schedule, budget, and client expectations.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with LSC’s Client Experience, Client Strategy, Engineering & Operations teams to assess power generation, substation, and power distribution opportunities, develop proposals, define execution strategies, and assemble project teams to successfully execute work.
  • Manage multiple complex power-sector projects using established project management practices to deliver high-quality engineering services on time and within budget while proactively managing scope, schedule, cost, quality, safety, and risk throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Lead projects involving generation facility upgrades, utility interconnection support, substation expansions or modifications, medium- and low-voltage power distribution systems, electrical equipment replacements, protection and controls, SCADA coordination, and related multi-discipline engineering scope.
  • Support business development through client relationship management, industry networking, proposal development, technical scoping, go/no-go input, and identification of future power and utility infrastructure opportunities.
  • Interpret client needs, utility requirements, project drivers, site constraints, and technical scope requirements to develop clear scopes of work, assumptions, exclusions, deliverables, schedules, and execution plans.
  • Coordinate multi-disciplinary project teams across LSC office locations, including electrical, civil, structural, mechanical, controls, environmental, estimating, procurement, and project controls resources.
  • Serve as the primary client-facing project leader for assigned projects, facilitating communication among clients, utilities, contractors, vendors, permitting stakeholders, and internal project teams.
  • Manage project financial performance, including budgets, forecasts, change management, earned value metrics, invoicing support, and timely identification of cost or schedule impacts.
  • Drive project planning, project controls, risk registers, issue resolution, lessons learned, and recurring status reporting to clients and LSC management.
  • Provide formal training, coaching, and mentorship to Project Engineers, Associate Project Managers, and Project Managers supporting power and utility infrastructure projects.
  • Assist with the development, improvement, and consistent use of project management processes, templates, and tools for power-sector project execution.
  • Support and participate in internal initiatives that improve project delivery, quality, safety, client service, and operational performance.

Requirements:

Education, Certifications/Licenses, Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or related technical discipline; Electrical Engineering degree preferred.
  • PMP certification preferred, or ability to obtain certification.
  • Minimum of 15 years of professional experience in project management, engineering management, construction management, or related leadership roles.
  • Demonstrated experience managing engineering or EPC-support projects in power generation, substations, transmission, distribution, utility interconnections, industrial power systems, or related electrical infrastructure.
  • Experience managing projects involving multi-discipline engineering deliverables, client interface, project controls, estimating support, procurement coordination, construction support, and project closeout.

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Working knowledge of project management concepts, tools, and project controls practices, with demonstrated ability to deliver defined project scope on time and within budget.
  • Strong understanding of power generation, substation, and power distribution project delivery, including typical engineering deliverables, project phases, utility coordination, constructability considerations, and commissioning support.
  • Familiarity with electrical infrastructure such as medium- and high-voltage substations, transformers, switchgear, breakers, relays, protection and controls, grounding, cable systems, distribution equipment, standby or emergency power systems, and SCADA or controls integration.
  • Ability to understand and coordinate technical scope across electrical, civil, structural, mechanical, controls, environmental, permitting, estimating, and construction support disciplines.
  • Experience developing and managing scopes of work, proposals, execution plans, project schedules, budgets, resource forecasts, risk registers, change orders, and client status reports.
  • Strong client-facing communication skills, including the ability to facilitate project meetings, present status updates, resolve issues, and communicate technical and commercial impacts clearly.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple competing priorities, project deadlines, technical issues, and stakeholder expectations in a dynamic project environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to positively influence project teams, discipline leads, clients, vendors, and construction partners to achieve results that are in the best interest of the project and organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess project situations, determine importance, urgency, risk, and commercial impact, and make timely decisions that support project success.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to see the big picture while also understanding key technical, financial, contractual, and schedule details.
  • Strong experience establishing project controls, earned value plans, forecasting methods, and performance metrics.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, particularly Excel; experience with scheduling, project controls, document control, or resource planning tools preferred.
  • Ability to adapt to rapidly changing project circumstances, client priorities, regulatory requirements, technology, and market conditions.
  • Proven ability to quickly learn new technologies, processes, markets, and client standards related to power and utility infrastructure.

Lake Superior Consulting offers a competitive compensation package. The actual starting salary will be determined based on a variety of factors, including your skills, experience, and office/market location. The anticipated salary/hourly range for this position is $120,000-$180,000 per year.
