VMWare Operations & Support Engineer

Job Summary

The VMware Operations & Support Engineer is responsible for the day-to-day administration, support, maintenance, and optimization of enterprise virtualization platforms. The role ensures the availability, performance, security, and compliance of VMware infrastructure, supporting mission-critical business applications across production, DR, and UAT environments.

Key Responsibilities

VMware Infrastructure Operations

• Administer and support VMware vSphere, ESXi, and vCenter environments.

• Manage VMware clusters, HA, DRS, vMotion, and Storage vMotion.

• Perform VM provisioning, decommissioning, and lifecycle management.

• Monitor and optimize virtualization platform performance and capacity.

• Conduct routine health checks and preventive maintenance activities.

VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF)

• Operate and support VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) environments.

• Manage SDDC-Manager, Management Domain, and Workload Domains.

• Perform VCF lifecycle management activities including patching, upgrades, and compliance remediation.

• Troubleshoot issues across compute, storage, and network layers. 

Storage & Hyperconverged Infrastructure

• Support Dell VxRail and vSAN environments.

• Manage storage capacity, performance, and availability.

• Coordinate hardware maintenance and firmware upgrades.

• Work with vendors for incident resolution and hardware replacement. 

Incident & Problem Management

• Provide L2/L3 operational support for virtualization-related incidents.

• Troubleshoot ESXi hosts, vCenter, VM performance, and infrastructure issues.

• Perform root cause analysis and implement permanent fixes.

• Participate in major incident and disaster recovery activities.

Security & Compliance

• Ensure compliance with security standards and cyber hygiene requirements.

• Support vulnerability remediation and security patching.

• Maintain RBAC permissions and privileged access controls.

• Support audit requests and infrastructure compliance reviews.

Automation & Monitoring

• Develop and maintain automation scripts using PowerCLI and PowerShell.

• Support monitoring platforms such as VMware Aria Operations.

• Automate operational tasks to improve efficiency and reduce manual effort.

• Create and maintain operational dashboards and reports. 

Documentation & Governance

• Develop and maintain SOPs, runbooks, operational guides, and technical documentation.

• Maintain CMDB and infrastructure documentation.

• Support change, release, and configuration management processes.

Required Skills & Experience

Mandatory

• 5+ years of VMware infrastructure operations experience.

• Strong hands-on experience with:

• VMware ESXi 7.x / 8.x

• VMware HCX Migration

• VMware vCenter Server

• VMware vSphere HA, DRS, vMotion

• VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF)

• Experience supporting Dell VxRail or equivalent HCI platforms.

• Experience with PowerCLI/PowerShell automation.

• Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.

• Experience supporting enterprise or financial-services environments.

• Knowledge of ITIL-based operational processes.

Preferred

• Experience with:

• VMware NSX-T / NSX

• VMware Aria Operations

• VMware SRM

• Dell PowerFlex

• Knowledge of enterprise storage and networking concepts.

• Experience with ServiceNow and monitoring platforms
