Full description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Build & Release Support Engineer | CI/CD based in United States.
This role provides high-impact technical support for the build, release, and CI/CD systems that developers rely on to ship software reliably. You will work directly with engineering teams to troubleshoot build failures, pipeline issues, dependency problems, configuration errors, and software supply chain challenges. The position combines frontline support with deep technical investigation across tools such as Maven, Jenkins, Docker, Artifactory, and Spinnaker. You will manage a high volume of Slack conversations and support tickets while maintaining clear communication and accurate follow-through. The role offers an opportunity to become a deep technical expert in a mission-critical build and release ecosystem supporting global engineering teams. You will also contribute to incident response, escalation management, documentation, and knowledge sharing to reduce recurring issues. This is a fully remote role suited to someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment with high context switching, autonomy, and hands-on technical problem solving.

Accountabilities:
- Provide frontline technical support through Slack and ticketing channels, managing approximately equal volumes of both while maintaining high-quality outcomes.
- Triage build failures, broken CI/CD pipelines, dependency issues, configuration errors, and related development workflow problems.
- Diagnose complex build, packaging, artifact, and pipeline issues independently before determining whether escalation is required.
- Troubleshoot technologies including Maven and Java build systems, Docker images, Artifactory repositories, Jenkins jobs, and Spinnaker pipelines.
- Manage multiple developer interactions and technical investigations in parallel while maintaining accurate follow-ups and clear prioritization.
- Support incidents involving complex or large-scale build and release failures, providing structured communication throughout investigation, root-cause analysis, and resolution.
- Conduct thorough technical analysis before escalating issues and provide complete logs, reproduction steps, build metadata, and relevant context.
- Create clear, actionable escalation tickets that enable downstream engineering teams to resolve issues efficiently.
- Maintain and improve FAQs, internal documentation, and problem-solution guides for recurring build and release issues.
- Proactively document newly resolved problems and turn recurring technical challenges into reusable knowledge.
- Monitor support patterns and issue classifications to identify opportunities to improve reliability, usability, and developer experience.
- Contribute to team reviews of escalated tickets and support continuous improvement across the build and release environment.
Requirements:
- 2–5 years of experience in Build/Release Engineering, DevOps, SRE, software development, or a closely related technical field.
- Strong proficiency with Git and CI/CD tooling such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or comparable platforms.
- Solid understanding of build and release engineering fundamentals, Maven or Gradle, Java build tooling, and the software development lifecycle.
- Experience working with artifact repositories such as Artifactory or Nexus and an understanding of the software supply chain lifecycle.
- Experience with Spinnaker or a similar deployment orchestration platform.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities, with the ability to independently investigate complex technical issues.
- Strong Linux and Unix command-line skills, including scripting with Python and/or Bash.
- Working knowledge of containers and container platforms, particularly Docker and Kubernetes.
- Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills, especially when supporting developers and documenting technical issues.
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent support requests, switch contexts efficiently, and maintain attention to detail under pressure.
- Strong understanding of software delivery workflows and the technical dependencies involved in build and release systems.
- Experience with monitoring tools such as Prometheus or Grafana is a plus.
- Previous SRE experience is desirable.
- Candidates must be comfortable working remotely during the core schedule of 8:00 AM–5:00 PM Pacific Time.
Benefits:
- Fully remote work within the United States.
- Opportunity to work on high-visibility, mission-critical CI/CD services used by a large global engineering organization.
- Hands-on exposure to modern build, release, deployment, container, and software supply chain technologies.
- High degree of autonomy within a remote-first, trust-based working environment.
- Continuous learning and opportunities to deepen technical expertise in CI/CD and developer infrastructure.
- Direct impact through unblocking developers and improving the reliability and usability of critical engineering systems.
- Exposure to complex technical challenges and globally distributed engineering environments.
