Business Analyst - Agile/SAFe Location:  Remote Compensation:  75k-95.5k annual Clearance:  Confidential

We are seeking a Business Analyst to support technology and software development initiatives within a SAFe Agile environment. The Business Analyst will work closely with stakeholders, Product Management, developers, QA, Scrum Masters, and project leadership to understand business needs, analyze processes, capture business rules, and translate requirements into actionable Agile work items in Azure DevOps (ADO).

The ideal candidate can bridge the gap between business and technical teams by turning complex business processes and requirements into clear, testable, and traceable features, user stories, acceptance criteria, and supporting documentation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Elicit, analyze, validate, and document business and technical requirements throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Map and document current-state and future-state business processes, including workflows, decision points, actors, system interactions, and dependencies.
  • Identify, document, and maintain business rules, policies, conditions, and system behaviors that govern business processes.
  • Translate business requirements, process models, and business rules into SAFe/Agile features, user stories, acceptance criteria, and ADO work items.
  • Create and maintain requirements in Azure DevOps (ADO) and ensure work items accurately reflect approved business needs and scope.
  • Decompose complex requirements into appropriately sized, actionable user stories that can be developed and tested within an iteration.
  • Develop clear, measurable, and testable acceptance criteria that define expected system behavior and business outcomes.
  • Maintain requirements traceability from business needs and business rules through features, user stories, development, testing, and acceptance.
  • Collaborate with Product Management and Product Owners to support backlog development, prioritization, refinement, and readiness.
  • Participate in SAFe PI Planning, backlog refinement, iteration planning, system demos, retrospectives, and other Agile ceremonies.
  • Facilitate requirements workshops and working sessions with business and technical stakeholders.
  • Analyze requirements and processes to identify gaps, inconsistencies, dependencies, risks, and impacts.
  • Work directly with developers and technical teams to clarify requirements, business rules, workflows, and expected system behavior.
  • Partner with QA to ensure requirements and acceptance criteria provide a sufficient basis for test planning and validation.
  • Review proposed solutions and developed functionality to verify alignment with approved requirements and business processes.
  • Analyze proposed changes and document their impact on requirements, processes, functionality, scope, and downstream systems.
  • Develop and maintain process flows, workflow diagrams, business rules catalogs, functional requirements, requirements traceability matrices, and other BA artifacts.
  • Ensure requirements and supporting documentation remain current and synchronized with ADO and the approved product backlog.
  • Identify and communicate requirements-related risks, issues, assumptions, and dependencies.
  • Support continuous improvement of business analysis, requirements management, and Agile delivery practices.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Technology, Computer Science, Project Management, or a related field, and four years of experience as a Business Analyst or related role.
  • Demonstrated experience gathering, analyzing, and documenting business requirements, technical requirements, and business rules.
  • Experience developing current-state and future-state process maps and documenting business workflows.
  • Experience translating requirements and process analysis into features, user stories, acceptance criteria, and Agile work items.
  • Hands-on experience with Azure DevOps (ADO) or a comparable requirements and Agile work-management platform.
  • Experience working within a SAFe Agile and/or Agile/Scrum environment.
  • Understanding of software development lifecycles and the relationship between requirements, development, QA, deployment, and operational support.
  • Strong understanding of requirements traceability and requirements management.
  • Ability to analyze complex business processes and translate them into clear, actionable requirements for technical teams.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, facilitation, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with business stakeholders, Product Management, Product Owners, developers, QA, Scrum Masters, and project leadership.
  • Experience with process modeling and diagramming tools such as Visio, Lucidchart, or similar platforms.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and tools such as Azure DevOps, Jira, Confluence, SharePoint, or similar platforms.
  • Familiarity with cloud technologies, APIs, system integrations, databases, data flows, or technical architectures is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • SAFe certification or demonstrated experience working within a SAFe Agile Release Train (ART).
  • Experience supporting PI Planning and iteration planning.
  • Experience managing and refining product backlogs in ADO.
  • Experience developing business rules, process models, requirements traceability, and acceptance criteria.
  • Experience working directly with software development and QA teams.
  • Experience with complex technical systems, integrations, APIs, data flows, or cloud-based applications.
