We are now looking for a suitable person to fill the following position in the Information Technology Office:
Systems Analyst (Web)
Major Duties and Responsibilities
The appointee will be responsible mainly for the following:
- Developing, maintaining, and supporting backend components for the University’s web services and WordPress-based platforms;
- Maintaining and optimizing MySQL databases, including performance tuning, query optimization, indexing, and routine database maintenance;
- Supporting WordPress plugin development, customization, upgrades, testing, and troubleshooting;
- Developing and integrating APIs for web applications, third-party systems, and internal services;
- Assisting in the administration and optimization of related database tools and backend utilities;
- Supporting website stability, scalability, and performance through monitoring, troubleshooting, and technical improvements;
- Assisting in cloud-based hosting and deployment tasks, with exposure to Microsoft Azure environments;
- Applying security best practices in system design, access control, patching, and vulnerability mitigation;
- Participating in stress testing, load testing, and performance validation to ensure web service reliability;
- Working closely with frontend, infrastructure, and content teams to deliver secure and efficient web solutions; and
- Performing any other duties as assigned.
Candidates
Candidates should possess the following qualifications, experience and competence:
- A recognised degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related discipline;
- At least 3 years of relevant post-qualification experience in backend development, database administration, or web application support;
- Solid hands-on experience with
- WordPress plugin development, customization, and upgrade support;
- API development, integration, and troubleshooting;
- PHP, SQL, Python and related backend technologies;
- MySQL database maintenance, tuning, optimization, and troubleshooting;
- Microsoft Azure knowledge or cloud platform exposure;
- Website stress testing, performance testing, and service reliability validation;
- Security concepts and best practices in web and database environments;
- Experience in WordPress environments and enterprise web systems would be an advantage;
- Familiarity with logging, monitoring, and incident troubleshooting in production systems;
- Good analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills;
- A good team player who is proactive, detail-oriented, and able to work independently; and
- Good communication skills in both English and Chinese.
