Senior Cybersecurity Architect – Zero Trust

Job Description

Job Title: Senior Cybersecurity Architect – Zero Trust

The National Air and Space Intelligence Center (NASIC) delivers scientific and technical intelligence that helps the United States understand foreign air, space, missile, cyber, and related threat capabilities. Protecting the systems, networks, cloud environments, and data that enable this mission requires cybersecurity that is built into the enterprise—not added after the fact.

This position supports NASIC through the Advisory Support & Technical Requirement Administration (ASTRA) effort, providing cybersecurity and enterprise architecture expertise supporting the modernization of highly sensitive intelligence environments. Working alongside Government personnel and multidisciplinary technical teams, you will help NASIC advance Zero Trust principles across complex cloud, network, data, identity, application, and mission architectures.

In this role, you will provide senior technical and advisory support for Zero Trust Architecture, cybersecurity modernization, and enterprise network strategy. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assess existing enterprise and mission architectures against Department of Defense Zero Trust principles and identify capability gaps, technical risks, and modernization priorities.
  • Develop and evaluate Zero Trust architectures and implementation strategies across identity, credential and access management; devices; networks and environments; applications and workloads; data; visibility and analytics; and automation and orchestration.
  • Translate mission requirements and cybersecurity policy into executable technical architectures, modernization roadmaps, and implementation recommendations.
  • Support enterprise architecture and network design activities across classified and mission-sensitive environments.
  • Evaluate identity-centric and attribute-based access approaches, including least-privilege access, continuous authentication and authorization, segmentation, and policy enforcement.
  • Assess cloud and commercial cloud capabilities for security, interoperability, scalability, and suitability within DoD and Intelligence Community environments.
  • Support development of secure data architectures addressing access control, data protection, tagging, governance, movement, and sharing.
  • Evaluate emerging cybersecurity technologies and recommend solutions that improve mission security while enabling operational agility.
  • Collaborate with data engineers, cloud architects, network engineers, software teams, intelligence professionals, and cybersecurity personnel to integrate security throughout the technology lifecycle.
  • Support cybersecurity architecture reviews, technical exchange meetings, trade studies, risk assessments, and alternatives analyses.
  • Identify opportunities to employ automation, analytics, and AI/ML capabilities to improve enterprise cybersecurity visibility and decision-making.
  • Support integration of Zero Trust principles with DevSecOps, cloud-native development, and broader digital modernization initiatives.
  • Assist Government leadership with cybersecurity strategy, policy development, technical documentation, and executive-level decision briefings.
  • Maintain awareness of evolving DoD, Department of the Air Force, Intelligence Community, and industry cybersecurity standards and Zero Trust implementation guidance.
  • Develop clear technical recommendations that balance mission effectiveness, cybersecurity risk, interoperability, cost, and implementation feasibility.

Required Skills/Education

Education: Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.

Years of Experience: Ten (10) or more years of relevant cybersecurity, enterprise architecture, network architecture, cloud security, systems engineering, or related technical experience. Experience supporting Department of Defense or Intelligence Community environments is strongly desired.

Required Qualifications:

  • United States Citizenship.
  • Demonstrated cybersecurity architecture experience within complex enterprise environments.
  • Working knowledge of Zero Trust concepts and architecture principles.
  • Experience with enterprise network, cloud, data, application, or identity security architectures.
  • Understanding of DoD cybersecurity requirements and Risk Management Framework (RMF) processes.
  • Ability to assess current-state architectures and translate technical gaps into actionable modernization recommendations.
  • Strong analytical and technical problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to communicate complex cybersecurity concepts to both technical personnel and senior decision makers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively across Government, engineering, intelligence, cyber, data, and acquisition organizations.

  • Experience with AWS, Microsoft Azure, or other commercial/cloud environments supporting Government missions.
  • Familiarity with DevSecOps, containerized environments, APIs, infrastructure automation, and cloud-native architectures.
  • Experience with data governance, data security, enterprise data architectures, or cross-domain information sharing.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity analytics, Security Information and Event Management (SIEM), endpoint security, continuous monitoring, or security orchestration technologies.
  • Experience conducting architecture assessments, trade studies, Analysis of Alternatives, technical evaluations, or technology scouting.
