We are seeking an experienced Business Analyst to support the analysis, documentation, testing, and modernization of high-priority legacy applications.

This role is ideal for a Business Analyst who has experience analyzing existing applications, reverse-engineering system functionality, documenting business and technical requirements, developing comprehensive test cases, and working closely with technical and business stakeholders.

The Business Analyst will help establish accurate and reusable documentation for legacy systems by identifying current business processes, system functionality, data flows, business rules, user requirements, and edge cases.

The position will also support application testing, accessibility validation, defect identification, and requirements traceability.

The successful candidate should be comfortable using AI-assisted tools to accelerate requirements documentation, process analysis, and test-case development while independently reviewing and validating AI-generated content for accuracy.

Key Responsibilities

Analyze and reverse-engineer existing legacy applications to understand current functionality, workflows, business rules, integrations, and system behavior.

Gather, analyze, and document business, functional, and technical requirements.

Develop detailed user stories, acceptance criteria, business requirements, process flows, data flow diagrams, and edge-case scenarios.

Work with business stakeholders, developers, technical teams, and leadership to identify and clarify application requirements.

Identify gaps, inconsistencies, ambiguities, and risks within existing application functionality and documentation.

Create comprehensive requirements-based test cases.

Develop test scenarios covering:

Functional testing

Regression testing

Accessibility testing

Security-related requirements

Business process validation

Negative and edge-case testing

Execute and support application testing activities.

Validate test results and application functionality against documented requirements.

Identify, document, and track application defects.

Work with development teams to support defect resolution and remediation activities.

Retest application functionality following fixes and enhancements.

Create and maintain Requirements Traceability Matrices (RTMs) linking business requirements, functional requirements, test cases, identified findings, defects, and remediation activities.

Assist with accessibility gap assessments and validation of accessibility-related application changes.

Support application reviews against WCAG 2.2 accessibility standards.

Ensure accessibility improvements continue to support required business processes and user needs.

Utilize AI tools to accelerate initial drafts of requirements, process documentation, application analysis, and test cases.

Review and validate AI-generated documentation to ensure accuracy, completeness, and alignment with actual application functionality and business requirements.

Manage requirements, user stories, work items, test cases, and related documentation within Azure DevOps.

Maintain project documentation and collaboration materials within SharePoint.

Coordinate activities across multiple applications, stakeholders, and technical workstreams.

Identify project risks, issues, dependencies, and requirements gaps and communicate them to appropriate stakeholders.

Facilitate requirements discussions, application walkthroughs, testing sessions, and stakeholder meetings.

Prepare clear status updates regarding requirements, testing activities, risks, issues, and deliverables.

Required Qualifications

Minimum 2 years of experience as a Business Analyst developing business requirements and test cases.

Experience analyzing and documenting existing or legacy applications.

Experience reverse-engineering application functionality to identify business, functional, and technical requirements.

Strong experience gathering, analyzing, and documenting business requirements.

Experience developing user stories and acceptance criteria.

Experience creating process flows and workflow documentation.

Experience developing data flow diagrams.

Experience identifying and documenting application edge cases and exception scenarios.

Strong experience developing detailed application test cases.

Experience supporting or performing application testing.

Experience executing test cases and validating test results.

Experience documenting and tracking defects.

Experience supporting defect remediation and application retesting.

Experience developing and maintaining Requirements Traceability Matrices.

Proficiency with Azure DevOps for requirements management, work-item tracking, test-case documentation, and defect management.

Experience using SharePoint for document management and team collaboration.

Strong Microsoft Office skills, including:

Strong analytical and critical-thinking abilities.

Candidates must be comfortable using modern AI tools to support Business Analysis activities.

Identification of potential requirements gaps and edge cases

Candidates must also be capable of independently reviewing AI-generated information and validating it against actual business requirements and application functionality.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with large or complex legacy application environments.

Experience working as a Technical Business Analyst, Business Systems Analyst, or Business Analyst/QA Analyst.

Experience with application modernization projects.

Experience with WCAG 2.2 or similar digital accessibility standards.

Experience performing or supporting accessibility testing.

Experience with application security testing requirements.

Experience supporting multiple applications or development teams simultaneously.

Experience working within Agile or hybrid Agile environments.

Experience collaborating with developers, QA analysts, application owners, program managers, and business stakeholders.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is more technically oriented than a traditional Business Analyst and is comfortable investigating how an existing application actually works when complete documentation may not be available.

The candidate should be able to analyze application behavior, interview stakeholders, review existing documentation, identify business rules and system dependencies, and convert those findings into well-structured requirements and test cases.

A strong candidate will combine Business Analysis, systems analysis, requirements documentation, and QA/testing capabilities and will be comfortable using AI tools to improve productivity without relying on AI-generated information without proper validation.

Work Arrangement

This position is primarily remote.

Candidates must be willing and able to attend an on-site meeting once per month, typically on the second Monday of each month.
