SafeWork NSW is the state's workplace health and safety regulator. Our mission is to reduce work-related fatalities, injuries and illnesses by ensuring workplaces comply with work health and safety laws. We achieve this through a mix of responsive and proactive programs targeting high-risk areas across all industries, aligned with our strategic plan and regulatory priorities.

About the Team and the Role

The Regulatory Intelligence, Analytics and Reporting team sits within the Data and Digital Systems Directorate within SafeWork NSW and is comprised of both data and intelligence practitioners. We produce complex and specialised intelligence products that identify areas of high and emerging risk, prevent and reduce harm and inform long term strategic planning. As part of SafeWork NSW, we support inspections, investigations, prosecutions, and proactive operations that ensure the safety of the people of NSW.

As a Data Analyst, will analyse and integrate data from multiple sources to identify emerging workplace safety risks, support regulatory decision making and uncover opportunities for business improvement. Working closely with stakeholders across SafeWork NSW, you will develop analytical products, dashboards and insights that drive evidence-based outcomes and help prevent workplace harm.

The Data Analyst role will include:

  • The provision of data analytics and insights across a range of topics and for a range of target audiences
  • The use of multiple data analytics tools and approaches to clean, analyse and display various data and information
  • The ability to cross-analyse multiple data sets and identify trends and patterns
  • Proactive relationship building and management across SafeWork NSW

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Experience analysing complex datasets and translating findings into actionable insights and recommendations
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present information to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to build productive relationships and work collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders
  • Experience developing dashboards, reports, visualisations and other analytical products
  • Experience using contemporary analytics and visualisation tools such as Power BI, SQL, Python, R, GIS or similar technologies to analyse and communicate insights
  • Tertiary qualifications in Statistics, Mathematics, Social Science, Engineering, Computer Science, Econometrics or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience
