Full description

Permanent Opportunity

The Engineering Manager is a key people, technical and delivery leader responsible for leading a team of Engineers to deliver high-quality outcomes for customers and the business. The role leads the engineering capability supporting Customer Communications Management (CCMS), including the design, development, operation, modernisation and continuous improvement of highly reliable, secure and scalable platforms and integrations. A key focus is API-first, event-driven integration with on-prem and SAAS based platforms, enabling omnichannel customer communications across digital, SMS, email and print.

The Engineering Manager partners closely with Product and other technology leaders to set direction, drive delivery and evolve the technical strategy. They provide hands-on technical leadership when required, with accountability for solution design, technical excellence, platform health, reliability, security and operational excellence.

What are we looking for?

  • 6+ years’ experience in software engineering, with at least 4-5 years in an engineering leadership or management role
  • Strong technical background with hands-on experience in .NET technologies, particularly C#, ASP.NET and .NET Core
  • Strong experience designing and building system integrations using REST APIs, events and messaging
  • Experience with distributed systems and modern architectures, including microservices, serverless and cloud-native environments
  • Strong experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS, and containerised workloads
  • Experience with SQL and NoSQL technologies such as SQL Server, DynamoDB and Redis
  • Strong understanding of CI/CD, DevOps, observability and production support practices
  • Demonstrated experience driving reliability, resilience, security, performance and operational excellence for production systems
  • Proven experience leading, coaching, mentoring and developing Engineers
  • Strong delivery and stakeholder management skills
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to balance customer needs, technical priorities, regulatory compliance and delivery pace
  • A passion for engineering excellence, continuous improvement, knowledge sharing and growing high-performing teams
  • Desirable though not essential; experience with print, SMS and email communications platforms
