Full description

Stevens is a strategic advisory and technology firm that partners with companies on high-impact transformation and technology initiatives. We work closely with executive and technology leaders to solve complex problems, identify opportunities, and turn strategy into working solutions.

We’re looking for an experienced Technical Delivery Manager to join Stevens on an hourly contract basis and lead the day-to-day delivery of technical work across client engagements.

You’ll be assigned to a Stevens delivery pod alongside engineers, architects, designers, and other specialists. Working closely with Stevens technical and engagement leadership, you’ll be responsible for turning priorities, requirements, and technical direction into clear, executable work for the team and ensuring that work moves through delivery successfully.

This is not an administrative project management or Scrum Master role. You should be technically fluent, comfortable working with senior engineers and architects, and capable of understanding technical discussions well enough to translate them into structured plans and engineering work.

Depending on the engagement, you will:

  • Own day-to-day delivery for an assigned Stevens delivery pod
  • Translate priorities, requirements, and technical direction into clear engineering tickets and deliverables
  • Work with technical leadership to break complex initiatives into milestones, workstreams, and executable tasks
  • Manage and continuously refine engineering backlogs
  • Run planning sessions, standups, backlog refinement, retrospectives, and other delivery meetings
  • Coordinate engineers, designers, architects, and other specialists across the engagement
  • Track progress, dependencies, risks, blockers, and outstanding decisions
  • Ensure engineers have the context and requirements needed to execute effectively
  • Identify delivery risks early and escalate issues when appropriate
  • Maintain clear visibility into engagement status for Stevens leadership and client stakeholders
  • Participate in technical planning and architecture discussions
  • Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical client stakeholders
  • Own delivery follow-through from initial planning through completion

This role is currently limited to contractors located in the United States.

  • Strong professional experience managing software engineering or technical delivery
  • Demonstrated experience owning delivery for software engineering teams
  • Strong understanding of modern software development practices and the software development lifecycle
  • Technical fluency sufficient to work effectively with senior engineers, architects, and technical leaders
  • Experience translating technical discussions and requirements into clear engineering tickets, acceptance criteria, and delivery plans
  • Experience managing engineering backlogs, priorities, dependencies, and release plans
  • Experience coordinating cross-functional teams involving engineering, design, product, infrastructure, or other technical disciplines
  • Ability to understand software architecture, APIs, databases, cloud infrastructure, integrations, and other common engineering concepts
  • Strong project planning, organization, and meeting facilitation skills
  • Ability to manage multiple workstreams, identify risks early, and drive blockers toward resolution
  • Ability to operate effectively in ambiguous and fast-moving technical environments
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfortable communicating directly with client stakeholders
  • Ability to participate in client and team meetings during U.S. business hours when required
  • Must be located in the United States and legally authorized to work in the United States

Experience in one or more of the following is a plus:

  • Technical background in software engineering, architecture, infrastructure, or another engineering discipline
  • AI, LLM, or machine learning initiatives
  • Enterprise software, cloud modernization, or systems integration
  • AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud environments
  • Linear, Jira, or similar engineering delivery platforms
  • Distributed engineering teams
  • Consulting, professional services, or other customer-facing technology environments
  • Regulated, government, or security-conscious environments
  • An active U.S. government security clearance is a plus, but is not required for this role

We place significantly more weight on technical fluency, delivery judgment, ownership, and demonstrated experience successfully leading engineering work than familiarity with any particular project management methodology.

Candidates may be asked to complete additional assessments or screening as part of the selection process. Depending on the engagement, additional technical or client interviews may also be required.

This is an hourly independent contractor (1099) position, not a salaried full-time role.

  • Competitive hourly compensation based on experience
  • Remote work within the United States
  • Work on complex, production-grade enterprise technology and AI initiatives
  • Collaborate with experienced engineers, architects, designers, and delivery leaders
  • Exposure to a range of enterprise environments, industries, and technologies
  • Contractors are paid bi-weekly through Deel
  • Hours are logged through Harvest
  • Hours may vary based on client and project requirements

All contract engagements are subject to successful completion of a standard U.S. criminal background check.
