This role requires deep expertise in performance tuning, large database management (10TB+), and building automation frameworks that integrate on-premises and AWS environments. The ideal candidate will adopt an “infrastructure as code” mindset and drive scalable, high-performance data solutions.
Key Responsibilities

- Perform wait state analysis and optimize storage I/O performance.
High Availability & Disaster Recovery
- Design, implement, and manage SQL Server Always On Availability Groups.
- Troubleshoot high-latency transactional replication issues in high-throughput systems.
- Establish and maintain robust backup and disaster recovery strategies.
Automation & Scripting
- Develop self-service automation solutions for development teams (e.g., automated database refreshes, schema validation).
- Build and maintain cross-platform automation frameworks using PowerShell, Python, or Ansible.
- Implement automated compliance checks and health monitoring for large-scale environments.
Database Migration & Upgrades
- Architect and execute migration strategies for large databases (10TB+) from on premises to AWS (EC2/RDS) with minimal downtime. Utilize tools and techniques such as Log Shipping, Mirroring, and AWS DMS.
- Leverage Delphix for data virtualization and masking to streamline non-production data provisioning.
Cloud & Infrastructure
- Deploy and manage SQL Server databases in AWS environments, including RDS and EC2.
- Ensure adherence to cloud best practices for scalability, security, and cost optimization.
Monitoring & Troubleshooting
- Proactively monitor database performance and resolve incidents.
- Use monitoring tools such as Foglight, DataDog, CloudWatch, and Redgate.
- Perform root cause analysis and implement preventive solutions.
Collaboration
- Collaborate with application development, DevOps, and infrastructure teams.
- Provide database design guidance and support development initiatives.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 10–12 years of experience as a SQL Server DBA.
- Proven experience managing large-scale databases (10TB+).
- Strong expertise in:
- SQL Server performance tuning (execution plans, indexing, query optimization)
- Always On Availability Groups
- SQL Server Replication
- Backup and recovery strategies
- Hands-on experience with PowerShell scripting for automation.
- Experience with Delphix (data virtualization and masking).
- Strong knowledge of AWS database services.
- Experience in database migrations and upgrades.
- Solid understanding of database security and compliance practices.

- Working knowledge of MongoDB or other NoSQL databases.
- Exposure to Microsoft Azure (Azure SQL, Managed Instances).
- Familiarity with DevOps tools and CI/CD pipelines.
Soft Skills
- Ability to translate complex technical database challenges into actionable business insights for stakeholders and provide technical mentorship to junior team members.
- Proven ability to maintain composure and lead technical resolution during high-pressure production outages and complex multi-wave cloud migrations.
- A strategic mindset focused on 'Automation First' - proactively identifying manual bottlenecks and architecting long-term scalable solutions rather than quick fixes.
