Full description

We are seeking an experienced Structural Steel Project Manager to oversee structural steel and miscellaneous metals projects from contract award through final delivery and project closeout. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of structural steel fabrication, construction drawings, project scheduling, material procurement, shop fabrication, and customer coordination.

This individual will serve as a key point of contact for customers and project partners while coordinating closely with estimating, engineering, detailing, fabrication, and field personnel to ensure projects are completed safely, accurately, on schedule, and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage structural steel and miscellaneous metals projects from award through completion
  • Review contracts, drawings, specifications, estimates, and project requirements
  • Coordinate project schedules, milestones, material procurement, fabrication, and delivery
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for customers, general contractors, subcontractors, engineers, and other project stakeholders
  • Coordinate with engineering and detailing teams to ensure drawings and fabrication details meet project requirements
  • Work closely with the fabrication shop to establish production priorities and maintain project schedules
  • Monitor project costs, budgets, labor, material usage, and profitability
  • Review and manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, and other project documentation
  • Identify potential project issues, scope gaps, schedule concerns, and cost impacts
  • Coordinate material purchasing and vendor relationships
  • Track fabrication progress and coordinate deliveries to meet project schedules
  • Ensure fabricated products comply with project specifications, drawings, and applicable quality standards
  • Coordinate with field personnel and erection contractors as needed
  • Maintain accurate project documentation throughout the project lifecycle
  • Conduct project meetings and provide regular updates to customers and internal leadership
  • Assist with resolving fabrication, delivery, and field-related issues
  • Manage project closeout, including final documentation and outstanding items
  • Maintain a high level of customer service throughout the project
  • 5–10 years of experience in structural steel construction, project management
  • Strong understanding of structural steel fabrication and erection processes
  • Ability to read and interpret structural drawings, shop drawings, specifications, and contracts
  • Experience managing project schedules, budgets, procurement, and customer expectations
  • Strong understanding of material requirements and fabrication lead times
  • Experience coordinating with engineers, detailers, fabricators, contractors, and vendors
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
  • Experience with project management software preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred but not required

Candidates with experience working for a structural steel fabricator, steel erection contractor, miscellaneous metals contractor, or commercial/industrial steel company are strongly preferred.

A background in both structural steel fabrication and project management is especially valuable.

Candidates should understand how a project progresses from estimating and detailing through procurement, shop fabrication, quality control, delivery, and field installation.
