Role Purpose
ABM is seeking a commercially driven Sales Engineer dedicated to the interior fit-out project business. The role is responsible for originating, qualifying, and converting fit-out opportunities through end clients, consultants, developers, and main contractors, and for owning each pursued opportunity from first engagement through award, execution support, and final account closure.
The Sales Engineer is accountable for the assigned order-intake, revenue, and gross-margin targets, and for the technical and commercial integrity of every proposal submitted. The role requires the ability to interpret architectural and interior drawings, bills of quantities, and scopes of work, to translate client requirements into costed and value-engineered solutions with the design and estimation teams, and ensure variation management, and contract administration.
The role requires regular attendance at client premises, vendor offices, and active project sites.
Job Accountabilities & Activities
Fit-Out Business Development:
- Identify, qualify, and develop interior fit-out project opportunities across the assigned territory and target segments.
- Build and maintain a qualified pipeline through end clients, developers, consultants, architects, and main contractors.
- Track project announcements, design activity, and tender releases to secure engagement ahead of tender issue and influence specification where possible.
- Represent the company at client meetings, site walkthroughs, industry events, and pre-tender briefings.
Technical & Commercial Proposals:
- Conduct site surveys and review architectural and interior drawings, specifications, and bills of quantities to establish accurate scope.
- Translate client requirements into costed technical solutions in coordination with the design and estimation teams.
- Prepare, review, and submit technical and commercial proposals within client deadlines.
- Comply with the organization commercial policies, delegation of authority, and contract review and approval procedures.
- Develop cost-benefit analyses and value-engineering alternatives that support client decision-making while protecting project margin.
- Ensure all submissions are compliant with tender requirements, the organization standard terms, and applicable regulations and standards.
Sales Target & Pipeline Management:
- Achieve the assigned annual sales target, order-intake, and revenue.
- Maintain accurate and current pipeline, forecast, and opportunity data in the designated sales system.
- Negotiate commercial terms, finalise sales agreements and contracts, and close orders within delegated authority.
- Ensure timely invoicing and collection of receivables, and support the resolution of overdue accounts with Finance and Credit & Collection.
Project Coordination & Handover:
- Coordinate with design, estimation, procurement, projects, and subcontractor teams from award through to completion.
- Act as the commercial point of contact for variations, change orders, and scope clarifications during execution.
- Support milestone sign-offs, handover documentation, snagging closure, retention release, and final account settlement.
- Escalate delivery, quality, cost, or scope risks to the Sales Manager and Projects team promptly and with a proposed course of action.
Market Intelligence & Reporting:
- Monitor and report on market trends, competitor activity, pricing behaviour, and upcoming project opportunities.
- Maintain accurate records of sales activity, client meetings, quotations, and customer complaints.
- Collect, complete, and submit all required sales and contract documentation within defined Service Level Agreement (SLA) guidelines.
Education & Certifications
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Interior Design, or Mechanical Engineering.
Required Years of Experience
- 3-5 years of project sales experience.
- Demonstrated experience originating and closing fit-out projects through end clients, consultants, and main contractors.
- Working knowledge of prequalification, tendering, contract award, variation management, and project close-out processes.
