Industrial Engineering Manager

Job Summary

Design, analyze, develop, and implement innovative, strategic solutions that improve store operational efficiency and workforce effectiveness across TJ Maxx and Marshalls stores. Drive improvements through store layout optimization, technology enhancements, material handling recommendations, work method and motion economy improvements, staffing and scheduling analysis, and capacity and flow optimization. Evaluate current processes and recommend solutions that enhance productivity, support store operations, and improve the overall associate and customer experience to drive sales.

Major Areas of Responsibility

Store Operations & Process Improvement

  • Design, analyze, develop, and implement solutions to improve operations in both selling and non-selling store areas, including:• Backroom operations
  • Front-end operations
  • Dressing rooms
  • Restrooms
  • Associate lounges
  • Custodial areas
  • Office and support spaces
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on operational efficiency, workload balance, and process effectiveness.
  • Evaluate and recommend material handling equipment and safety improvements.
  • Conduct ROI analyses to support business cases and investment decisions.
  • Support special projects that drive operational excellence and store productivity.
  • Influence senior leaders and stakeholders at multiple levels.

Capacity & Flow Optimization

  • Model and analyze store capacity, workload distribution, and merchandise flow to identify opportunities to improve productivity and execution.
  • Develop recommendations that optimize task sequencing, labor utilization, and operational throughput.
  • Assess floor-ready processes and determine the most effective location and timing for task completion.
  • Identify and eliminate process bottlenecks, redundancies, and non-value-added activities.
  • Analyze, prioritize, and sequence engineering initiatives to maximize operational impact and support organizational goals.

Strategic Planning & Innovation

  • Balance standardized operating practices with innovative solutions to support continuous improvement across store operations.
  • Stay informed of industry trends, emerging technologies, and retail best practices, translating insights into actionable strategies.
  • Monitor the competitive landscape and leverage external resources, partnerships, and networks to identify opportunities for long-term growth and operational improvement.
  • Develop solutions that consider cross-functional business impacts and align with broader organizational objectives.

Collaboration & Problem Solving

  • Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to gather insights, challenge assumptions, and develop practical, scalable solutions.
  • Identify root causes within complex operational challenges and develop data-driven recommendations.
  • Evaluate both immediate and long-term implications when making decisions affecting store operations and workforce effectiveness.
  • Continually assess, review, and recommend engineering and business solutions that reduce cycle time, improve productivity, and enhance operational execution.

Who We Are Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering
  • 3+ years of experience in Industrial Engineering, Finance, Business Operations, Retail Operations, or a related discipline.
  • Prior experience leading teams in a dynamic, fast paced environment.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence senior leaders and stakeholders at multiple levels.
  • Working knowledge of operational processes, workforce planning, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
  • Retail store or distribution center experience.
  • Six Sigma, Lean, or other continuous improvement certification.
  • Experience conducting process analysis, workflow optimization, capacity planning, or labor management initiatives.
  • Ability to travel up to 40%.

This position has a starting salary range of $104,800.00 to $136,200.00 per year. Actual starting pay is determined by a number of factors, including relevant skills, qualifications, and experience. This position is eligible for an annual incentive as well as long-term incentives.
