The Power BI Data Lead will lead the development and continuous improvement of Power BI reporting and data solutions within an international organisation operating in the mining and construction sector. This offshore role will combine hands-on Power BI delivery with technical leadership across data modelling, reporting standards, and data quality, working closely with Australian-based stakeholders to understand business priorities and deliver scalable, reliable reporting that supports operational and management decision-making.

  • Lead the design, development, maintenance, and improvement of Power BI dashboards, reports, and data solutions.
  • Work closely with business and technical stakeholders to understand priorities and translate complex reporting requirements into practical and scalable BI solutions.
  • Establish and maintain consistent standards across Power BI development, data modelling, reporting definitions, dashboard design, and documentation.
  • Design and maintain robust data models, relationships, calculations, and measures to support accurate and reliable reporting.
  • Develop and optimise complex DAX measures, Power Query transformations, and SQL queries.
  • Review Power BI dashboards, data models, and reporting solutions to ensure accuracy, performance, usability, and consistency.
  • Monitor report performance, scheduled data refreshes, and data dependencies to maintain reliable reporting outputs.
  • Investigate complex data and reporting issues and identify practical solutions.
  • Identify opportunities to consolidate reporting, reduce manual processes, and automate recurring reporting activities.
  • Support data quality and reporting governance practices to improve the consistency and reliability of business information.
  • Provide technical guidance and quality review across reporting and data-related activities.
  • Maintain accurate documentation relating to data models, reports, data sources, calculations, standards, and reporting processes.
  • Other position-level duties as they arise.
  • 5+ years’ experience in Power BI development, business intelligence, data analytics, reporting, or a similar data-focused role.
  • Strong hands-on experience designing and developing complex dashboards and reporting solutions using Microsoft Power BI.
  • Advanced working knowledge of Power BI Desktop, Power BI Service, DAX, Power Query, and data modelling.
  • Strong SQL capability, with experience extracting, analysing, validating, and troubleshooting data across multiple sources.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and maintaining scalable data models and structured reporting solutions.
  • Experience leading or providing technical direction across BI, reporting, or data-related projects.
  • Experience establishing or improving reporting standards, data quality practices, and technical documentation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate complex data and reporting issues.
  • Ability to engage with stakeholders, understand business priorities, and translate requirements into practical technical solutions.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills, with the ability to explain technical and data concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong organisational and prioritisation skills, with the ability to manage multiple reporting initiatives and competing business requirements.
  • Ability to work independently and provide technical leadership within an offshore support model aligned to Australian business hours.
