This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Technical Writer based in United States.

This role offers the opportunity to shape complex engineering and research content for a major federal transportation research environment.You will transform highly technical information into clear, accurate, and engaging materials for both specialized and general audiences.Your work will span concise fact sheets and newsletters through extensive research reports and technical publications.You will collaborate closely with engineers, researchers, and subject matter experts while managing content from initial research through final publication.The position combines writing, editing, research, accessibility, publication standards, and stakeholder coordination.Success requires strong judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced government environment.Remote work is anticipated, with occasional travel for client engagements and potential on-site requirements depending on contract needs.

Accountabilities

  • Research, write, and edit a broad range of technical and communications materials, including research reports, magazine features, newsletters, fact sheets, brochures, user manuals, and other publications.
  • Partner with engineers, researchers, and subject matter experts to translate complex technical and engineering concepts into clear, accurate, and accessible content for diverse audiences.
  • Perform substantive editing, copyediting, and proofreading throughout the production lifecycle, addressing grammar, spelling, punctuation, style, clarity, consistency, and logical flow.
  • Conduct interviews, research, and fact-checking to verify technical accuracy and ensure tables, schematics, figures, and other visual elements are effectively integrated into written content.
  • Apply the GPO Style Manual, Chicago Manual of Style, and applicable communication guidelines consistently across assigned materials.
  • Ensure written products meet Section 508 accessibility requirements and properly manage copyright permissions, attributions, and related publication requirements.
  • Manage documents and articles from outlining and interviews through review, revision, approval, and final publication while maintaining accurate version control.
  • Coordinate reviews and approvals with designated government contacts and external stakeholders when required.
  • Manage multiple assignments and competing deadlines while maintaining high standards for accuracy, quality, and client service.
  • Contribute proactively to complex projects and transformation initiatives, identifying solutions and adapting quickly to evolving requirements.

Requirements

  • 5–10 years of professional experience in technical writing, editing, publishing, or a closely related field.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, English, Communications, Journalism, or a related scientific or technical discipline.
  • Demonstrated expertise applying the GPO Style Manual and Chicago Manual of Style.
  • Experience developing content that complies with Section 508 accessibility requirements.
  • Experience supporting complex projects or transformation initiatives within a federal government, research, or similarly regulated environment.
  • Transportation-sector experience, particularly highway or surface transportation research, is highly preferred.
  • Strong research, analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to quickly understand complex technical subjects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present ideas and solutions logically and effectively.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, including the ability to prioritize competing deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with technical experts, clients, stakeholders, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Comfortable managing complex client relationships and incorporating feedback quickly and effectively.
  • Self-directed, proactive, and action-oriented, with the ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a team.
  • Ability to remain composed and productive under pressure in a fast-paced and evolving environment.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
