The Raytheon Digital Technology Storage & Data Protection team requires a seasoned administrator (P3 level) who will be responsible for backing up classified data from NetApp systems and client machines to tape for off‑site archival.
This role supports the mission of Raytheon by ensuring the secure backup and protection of classified data across multiple Air and Space Defense Systems (ASDS) program spaces. The Storage & Data Protection Backup Administrator plays a key operational role in maintaining reliable tape‑based archival processes, enabling secure long‑term retention of critical program information.
The ideal candidate brings hands‑on experience with enterprise backup tools and tape library technologies, combined with an operational mindset and strong attention to detail. Success in this position requires consistent execution of daily backup activities, maintaining network communications, troubleshooting system issues, and maintaining accurate records in a classified environment.
What you Will Do:
- As a Storage & Data Protection Backup Administrator supporting the ASDS strategic business unit, you will perform daily operational backup activities in classified program spaces. Your responsibilities will include:
- Create, update, and manage backup policies to meet program requirements
- Launch and monitor backups to ensure successful data writes to tape
- Track and document backup outcomes in a standardized backup tracking database
- Present backup status/results to program stakeholders on a monthly basis and provide awareness to any issues impacting program data backups.
- Troubleshoot and resolve failed backups, including software and hardware issues
- Install and update backup software on master servers
- Install and configure tape libraries
- Validate connectivity between clients, NetApp systems, and tape libraries
- Configure fiber channel switches to ensure high availability and optimal performance
- Rotate tapes in and out of secured Document Control areas while maintaining accurate inventory records
- Coordinate tape inventory management activities with Document Control and Cyber Security teams
- We will sponsor a US Secret Clearance if necessary. If the selected applicant does not have an active US Secret Clearance, we will have them apply for the US DoD Secret Clearance, and they can set their start date once the "Interim " Clearance is granted.

Qualifications You Must Have:
- Typically requires a University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience, or An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years' experience.
- Experience as a Systems Administrator within a Windows or Linux Operating enviornment.
- Experience with one or two of the approved backup software vendors: NetBackup, CommVault, or Veeam.
- Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance (Sponsored Interim Secret Clearance is acceptable) is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
Qualifications We Prefer:
- Tape library experience (Quantum, Overland, HPE, or Spectra Logic preferred)
- Experience with fiber channel switch zoning
- Basic understanding of Ethernet technologies.
- Prior experience working in Classified enviornments

The salary range for this role is 86,800 USD - 165,200 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
