Summary The Reinsurance Business Analyst serves as a liaison between business (Underwriting, Claims, Finance), technology teams and the Reinsurance platform vendor. This role is responsible for understanding business needs, documenting requirements, analyzing current processes, analyzing complex reinsurance data, and supporting the design and enhancement of Reinsurance platform capabilities.

This position operates in an agile insurance organization and requires a proactive, hands‑on analyst who can work independently, navigate ambiguity, and drive solutions from discovery through delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Business Analysis & Finance Partnership

  • Serve as the primary Business Analyst supporting Reinsurance and Finance leadership and teams for our Reinsurance Platform.
  • Partner with Finance stakeholders to understand business needs, process gaps, and improvement opportunities.
  • Translate business requirements into clear user stories, acceptance criteria, and functional specifications aligned with Agile product priorities.
  • Own the creation of Epics, Features, and User Stories, ensuring they meet the INVEST criteria (Independent, Negotiable, Valuable, Estimable, Small, Testable).
  • Evaluate current reinsurance workflows and identify opportunities to streamline reinsurance processes, increase automation, efficiency improvements, and enhance internal controls.

Requirements, Process Analysis & Solution Support

  • Facilitate discovery sessions, process mapping, and requirement-gathering workshops.
  • Document current-state and future-state processes for core Reinsurance functions.
  • Collaborate with 3rd party vendor team to ensure requirements are fully understood and feasible.
  • Assist in defining test scenarios, coordinating UAT, and validating end‑to‑end solutions.
  • Support post-deployment stabilization, issue resolution, and iterative enhancements.

Testing, Release Management & Delivery

  • Break down business needs into testable requirements and acceptance criteria.
  • Support development of test scripts and execution of business scenario testing.
  • Assist in coordinating Reinsurance/Finance-led QA and UAT, ensuring clear defect tracking and resolution.
  • Participate in Reinsurance release reviews, assess impacts, and recommend feature adoption with the Product Owner and functional team.

Vendor & Support Coordination

  • Partner & support vendor management activities related to the reinsurance application, including upgrades, integrations, and issue resolution.
  • Help reduce external support reliance by strengthening internal process knowledge and documentation.

Governance, Documentation & Continuous Improvement

  • Maintain clear documentation of requirements, process flows, functional decisions, and testing outcomes.
  • Partner with Product Owners and delivery teams to contribute business analysis expertise during backlog refinement, sprint planning, and other SAFe ceremonies, ensuring alignment, clarity, and readiness for execution.
  • Identify opportunities for automation and process optimization, recommending enhancements for backlog prioritization.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years in a Business Analyst role, specifically within the Insurance or Reinsurance sector. Experience in 3rd party Reinsurance systems is a plus.
  • Extensive hands-on experience in Reinsurance, with a strong emphasis on Assumed & Direct Business within a property & casualty insurance environment: Treaty vs. Facultative reinsurance and Proportional vs. Non-Proportional structures, Premium administration (GWP, NWP, Taxes and commissions), Claims Management, Retrocession, Regulatory Reporting & Compliance (Schedule F, Bordereau Management).
  • Experience translating business needs into requirements, user stories, and process documentation.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and testing skills.
  • Ability to work independently within a lean, fast-paced structure.
  • Proficiency in Agile delivery tools such as Azure DevOps (ADO) and Miro.
  • Proficiency in SQL, Excel (Advanced VBA/Macros), and experience with Reinsurance Platforms (e.g., PRS, Duck Creek, or Sapiens).
  • Ability to translate "Actuarial speak" into "Developer speak”
  • Strong negotiation and facilitation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional designations such as Associate in Reinsurance (ARe)
  • Experience supporting organizations transitioning from implementation to optimization.
  • Deep understanding of functional BA and functional QA work within a SaaS or legacy hosted application environment.
  • ADO Expertise is a plus.
